At the heart of OW’s success is Brownsville native and principal architect Javier Huerta, whose visionary designs capture the region’s unique spirit and character. 

Huerta brings over 25 years of extensive experience in architectural design, project management, and sustainable development, shaping OW into a brand synonymous with excellence and community impact. 

A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Architecture. His journey began with the nationally recognized Lake/Flato Architects, where he contributed to various impactful projects, from private residences and schools to eco-friendly developments and museums. He spent 10-plus years with Lake/Flato, and there, he embraced a philosophy of sustainable, context-driven design, which he has continued to cultivate throughout his career. 

“Architecture is not just about building structures, it’s about creating spaces that connect with the people who use them and enhance the fabric of our communities,” Huerta said.

In 2005, Huerta returned to Brownsville to apply his design philosophy to his community. He co-founded Origo Works, Ltd., focusing on integrating local elements and culture while crafting those elements into each development. With Huerta’s leadership, OW has become a cornerstone of the region’s architectural innovation and community enhancement. 

His dedication to capturing the essence of the Rio Grande Valley region in his designs, combined with his mastery of modern materials and construction techniques, has elevated Origo Works as a leader in real estate development that honors both tradition and modernity.

• Sabal Market Place Redevelopment – In collaboration with local stakeholders, Huerta is spearheading the transformation of Sabal Market Center into a vibrant, modern retail destination. This project features innovative design elements, upgraded infrastructure, and improved accessibility, making it a key contributor to the economic revitalization of Brownsville.
• Palm Village—This retail center is one of Huerta’s signature projects. It features a thoughtful layout and design that serve the needs of residents and visitors alike, creating an engaging experience for shoppers and supporting local businesses. 
• Stuart Place Crossing—Located in Harlingen, this development is known for its blend of aesthetics and functionality. It provides a welcoming space for retail tenants and patrons alike and showcases Huerta’s ability to balance design innovation and commercial viability. 

In celebration of OW’s 20 years, beginning January 2025, OW will launch #OW20, a special series that will chronicle the company’s history, highlighting notable projects, achievements, and the talented team that has driven OW’s success.
